CBI Research's Energy Conference Business Acquired by Platts

Woburn, MA May 13, 2004 - CBI Research, Inc., also known as The Center for Business Intelligence (CBI) today announced that it has sold its energy conference business to Platts, the global energy information division of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Launched in 1995, CBI's energy division produces over 40 conferences for the energy industry each year. The group brings together leading experts to evaluate current regulatory climates and reforms, privatization and development timelines, financing mechanisms, legal issues and risk mitigation strategies on a range of topics. From the ongoing deregulation of electric and gas markets to privatization and development opportunities in the electric, oil and gas sectors, CBI's energy conferences offer knowledgeable solutions to the challenges of doing business in specific regions.

This transaction allows CBI to focus on its core business of producing world class events for the pharmaceutical and biotech, risk and insurance, managed care and other non-energy related industries. CBI's non-energy related units have enjoyed tremendous growth, and now with the divestiture of the energy segment, CBI will concentrate on accelerating growth of the 80 conferences it currently produces and establishing complementary product offerings for these high growth vertical markets.
