The way that pharmaceutical manufacturers and payers contract is evolving due to
the turbulent economic landscape and the increasing costs of drugs available for
different therapeutic areas. With competitive therapies, payers have difficult
decisions to make as to which drugs are reimbursed. This increased pressure has
caused manufacturers to become creative and innovative with their strategies to
gain optimal market access and a competitive advantage.
As risk-sharing and innovative contracting is a growing trend in Europe, it is
important to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of these agreements, compare
different country’s approaches to applying them and understand the concrete,
measurable outcomes and their ramifications. It is also important to closely
assess these unique contracts and how they impact all stakeholders: pharma,
payers, pharmacists, physicians and patients.
There
are still many questions about these agreements: their future, their structure
and the impact that they will have with the advancement of medicine. This
conference is designed to provoke thoughtful discussion and much-needed
direction by industry experts, payers and colleagues that have seen success with
the application of this risk-based model of achieving market access.
